The way he describes why he likes the cars he does makes my heart tingle. Long live the Miura

That is who I want to grow up to be. I would be interested to know what line of business lead to that kind of collection. He said when he first sat in one in the 60s, he never thought he would be able to afford one, so its a safe assumption he didn’t come from money. What a great collection. I would kill to spend a day or two just checking out and driving the various cars.
Side note, the Miura and Dino are absolutely gorgeous. I think what stands out to me is the wheel to body ratio. The wheels on the Muira are level with the hood and it seems like you sit in-line with the hubs. Many modern sports cars just seem to have small tires on them. I think a lot of that is due to rising belt lines in cars for added side impact durability. As the line rises above the top of the tire it makes the tires look smaller, even if they haven’t changed in height. Personally, I would use taller tires to keep the look. Most sports cars are omitting the spare anyways, so its not like you have to find somewhere to stash it. I think the C4 corvette is a good example of a semi-modern car which has the correct tire height proportion.
I will say this appears to be an issue with lower priced performance cars, as the higher end manufacturers seem to still be using similar proportions. For me, the issue is particularly pronounced with BMW and modern muscle cars like this:
The tires just look small. I know they have a decent width, but they look out of place. Although every generation of M3 seems to have the same proportion, so at least they’re consistent.
It could also be that I’m just in love with pontoon fender sports cars from the 60s and am angry that prices of even the most affordable Dino’s are now well outside of my purchasing power.
